Loving My Neighbor

Because the Beatitudes are forming Christ’s character in me—Jesus now calls me to love my neighbor in a way that feels upside-down but leads right-side-up.

You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them  the other cheek also. Matthew 5:38-39 NIV

The world says, “Stand your ground. Get even. Protect what’s yours.” But Jesus invites me into something radical: don’t retaliate, go the extra mile, give more than what’s fair, and answer offense with mercy. He’s not asking me to be passive—He’s asking me to be powerful in love. This kind of love disarms hate, breaks cycles of revenge, and quietly reflects the heart of a Savior who turned the other cheek… all the way to the cross for me!

Being salt and light means I don’t just love the people who are easy to love. It means I respond to injustice, insult, and inconvenience with grace that can’t be explained apart from Jesus. It means loving generously, giving freely, and serving humbly—even when I’d rather walk away.

What if… the way I loved my neighbor became a window into how God has loved me? That’s the kind of love that changes everything. Let’s live it—together.

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
