Divorce

Because the Beatitudes change who I am—Jesus now calls me to see marriage not as a contract, but as a covenant.

It has been said, ‘Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.’
But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, makes her the victim of adultery...

Matthew 5:31-32 NIV

In a culture that treats divorce casually and women carelessly, Jesus re-centered the conversation around faithfulness, love, and lifelong commitment. He doesn’t avoid the pain or complexity of my marriage—He acknowledges it.

But He also raises the bar, reminding me that marriage was never meant to be disposable. It's sacred. It's hard. And it’s beautiful when lived the way God intended. Who knew that “leaving, cleaving, and becoming one flesh” would take so much grace, humility, and daily surrender?

What if… my love in marriage reflected the faithful love of Christ for His bride? That’s the kind of righteousness the world doesn’t expect—but desperately needs to see. Let’s honor that covenant—together.

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
