Loving My Enemy

Because the Beatitudes have been softening and reshaping my heart, Jesus now leads me to the most radical love of all: loving my enemies.

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:44-45 NIV

The world says, “Love your neighbor, hate your enemy.” But Jesus flips that completely upside down—He calls me to love those who hurt me, disagree with me, or stand against me. Not just tolerate them but love them. And not just love them in thought—but in prayer and in deed. When I pray for someone who has wounded me, something begins to shift not just in them, but in me. I begin to see them as God sees them. This is what it means to be a child of the Father—reflecting His kindness, even to the ungrateful and undeserving.
Being salt and light isn’t about shining when it’s easy—it’s about glowing with grace in the darkest, hardest places. It’s easy to love people who love me back. But when I love those who oppose me, I’m showing a love that doesn’t come from me—it comes from Jesus.

What if…my greatest witness wasn’t in winning arguments but in showing mercy? That’s the kind of love that points people straight to the heart of God. Let’s live that kind of love—together.

 Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
