So the sisters sent word too Jesus, “Lord, the one you love is sick.” — John 11:3 NIV
I want everything to go well, and I work hard to avoid difficult circumstances, but sometimes I fail. Mary and Martha spoke of Jesus’ love and Lazarus’ sickness in the same sentence. I have often forgotten that God’s love and my troubles can live together.
An American football coach once said, "My team learns very little from victory, but they have much to learn in defeat." I have wasted too many hard seasons in my life trying to get through them without asking God what He wants to teach me.
What if… we stop asking, "Why is this happening?" and start asking, "What are You showing me about who You are, and who I am?"
Prayer: Father, we confess how often we read hardship as evidence that You have stepped away. Teach us that Your love and our difficulties can share the same room. Amen.
Let's do this together.
