Fasting

But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,
so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting,
but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father,
who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Matthew 6:17–18 NIV

Because the Beatitudes have taught me to hunger and thirst for righteousness, Jesus now invites me into the quiet discipline of fasting. But just like giving and praying, He reminds me: the point isn’t to be noticed—it’s to be nourished.

Fasting is a sacred way of saying, “God, You’re enough.” It’s not about spiritual drama—it’s about spiritual dependence. So I fast with a clean face and a content heart—not to impress others, but to draw close to the Father who already sees and knows. That kind of hidden hunger brings a holy reward.

Being salt and light means living with a deep, unseen dependence on God that shapes everything others do see. When I fast in secret, I am reminded that life does not come from food, comfort, or control—it comes from communion with God.

What if…fasting became a quiet rhythm of renewal in my life? What if letting go of lesser things made room for greater intimacy with the Father? That’s the invitation Jesus offers. Let’s seek Him—together.

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
