Anger

Because the Beatitudes change who I am— Jesus now invites me to take a deeper look at what’s happening inside.

You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘You shall not murder…’ But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment… Matthew 5:21–22

God said through Moses, “Do not murder.” But Jesus says that our heart’s attitude can be as wrong as murder. He says to me, “Let’s talk about the attitude behind your anger, Bob. Is there resentment behind your silence? Is there a quiet contempt tucked away in your heart?” God is not trying to manage my anger; He’s wants to heal the root cause of it. True righteousness goes beneath the surface. It doesn’t excuse my anger—it examines it.

Being salt and light starts here—inside my relationships. If I say I follow Jesus, but I hold onto bitterness, I’m hiding the light He put in me. Jesus calls me to go quickly, humbly, and honestly to make peace. Not to win an argument—but to win a brother or sister.

What if…my response to anger became a witness to the work of the Holy Spirit in me? That’s the kind of heart Jesus is after. That’s true righteousness that shines in the darkness. Let’s live it together.

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
