Misplaced Affections?

When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”
John 21:15 NIV

When I try to imagine being in Peter’s shoes, I find myself eating breakfast at the Green Street Grill (my favorite diner ) eating with Jesus. Jesus asks me if I love Him more than anything else in my life—my family and friends, my job which I love, my dreams and desires, even my leisure and vacations!

Could I have any misplaced affections? Jesus gently but firmly asks if He is my first love.

Jesus wants all of me all the time—complete surrender, absolute obedience. This tender but poignant scene from the life of Peter lives itself out in my life as well. Will I answer as Peter did?—“Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” If so, Jesus simply replies to me as he replied to Peter, “Follow me” (John 21:19)

Will you join me in unfettered love for our Risen Lord today?

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
