Comfort Through Prayer

Southeast Asia - Equipped Saline Process™ Participant

Since attending a Saline Process™ training, I have begun regularly asking patients about their spiritual history during home visits.

During a recent home visit, a colleague and I met a woman with a swollen leg. As I took her history, I learned that she lives alone, is diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD), requires a transplant, and is currently on dialysis.

As we talked, she shared that Christians sometimes visit her to pray, that she attends church once a year at Christmas, and that she owns a Bible, but hasn’t read it yet. I gently encouraged her to begin reading the Bible.

As the conversation continued and trust began to grow, I sought her permission to share my own spiritual history. She accepted, and I shared the hope of eternal life through Jesus. Surprised, she asked if it was true. I reassured her that it was, and that eternal life with Jesus is free from pain and suffering. After sharing the Gospel, I prayed with her.

It was beautiful to witness this transformation. At first, she had been reluctant to let us in, but as we were leaving, she said: “Please keep coming to pray with me.”

While we discussed treatment and medications that would help her CKD, it was prayer that truly brought her comfort.

Afterwards, my colleague said that the appointment showed her the importance of using every opportunity to share God’s love. I told her that the Saline Process taught me that when we do so, we must always remember to approach others with sensitivity, seek permission, and show respect, while keeping our own spiritual vitality intact.
