The Soil of My Heart
Whoever has ears, let them hear.
Matthew 13:9 (NIV)
Living the Sermon on the Mount Through the Practical Wisdom of Jesus' Parables
The seed is always good. Jesus turns my attention not to what is being sown, but to the soil of my own heart. The same truth can land in me and produce very different results — depending on whether I am distracted, shallow, divided, or open. It's easier to assume the problem is out there. Jesus quietly invites me to look inside of my heart.
The condition of my heart determines the fruit of my life. Soft soil doesn't happen by accident — it is cultivated. Slowly. Through humility, repentance, and a willingness to stay attentive to God even when life gets hard.
He shows me that a life built on the rock looks like love with a towel around its waist. When storms come—and they will—what holds isn’t my strength, but a practiced surrender to the One who loved me to the end.
What if…I asked God to soften the soil of my heart so His Word could take deeper root — starting today?
Let's do this together.
Lord, show me where my heart has grown hard, shallow, or crowded. I can't fix the soil myself — but You can. Till it. Tend it. Make me ready to receive what You are always willing to give. Amen.
