After he had said this, he went on to tell them, ‘Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going there to wake him up.’ — John 11:11 NIV
The disciples thought they were walking toward a funeral – Lazarus’ funeral. Jesus, however, was walking toward a lesson about life, and more importantly about death. As a young man, I was taught that until I understood and settled the reality of my death, I could not wisely live my life on earth now.
When I view my life only from where I stand today, I see deadlines, disappointments, and urgent matters. But when I look at my life from eternity, my outlook and priorities change. What matters today looks different in light of eternity.
What if…we made our decisions this week from an eternal point of view instead of a temporary one? What if we asked, "Will this matter in a hundred years?"
Prayer: Jesus, help us live in light of eternity today. Amen.
Let's do this together.
