Humility into Strength
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Matthew 5:3-6 NIV
Because Lent calls me to honesty about my true condition, I notice where Jesus begins His most famous sermon — not with achievement, strength, or success, but with humility.
Poor in spirit. Meek. Hungry. These are not traits the world celebrates, yet Jesus calls them blessed. He is describing a heart posture that recognizes its need for God. A heart that does not pretend to be self-sufficient. A heart that knows spiritual fullness begins with spiritual emptiness. The Beatitudes gently dismantle my illusions of control and invite me into the freedom of dependence on God. Humility, it turns out, is not weakness at all — it is the soil where grace grows. When I acknowledge my need, God meets me there. When I release my grip on self-importance, His strength quietly replaces my striving.
What if…humility became not something I resist, but something I embrace? What if admitting my need became the doorway to deeper peace, deeper joy, deeper transformation?
This is where the kingdom life begins. Let’s lean into that posture together.
Let's walk this Lenten journey together.
