Digging into the Golden Rule
So, in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
Matthew 7:12 NIV
Because the Beatitudes have taught me to be merciful, pure in heart, and a peacemaker, Jesus now brings it all together in one sweeping, practical call: Treat others the way you want to be treated. Not just in theory—but in everything.
This isn’t just about being nice—it’s about stepping into someone else’s shoes and choosing love over convenience, compassion over indifference. Jesus is saying that a heart shaped by the kingdom will naturally show up in how I speak, serve, forgive, and care. It’s simple to understand—and lifelong to live out. Being salt and light means I reflect the heart of Jesus in everyday interactions. It means my kindness isn’t reactive—it’s intentional. My love isn’t reserved—it’s proactive.
What if... every one of my encounters with people is week becomes an opportunity to offer the grace I hope to receive? What if I lived each moment asking, “How would I want to be treated if I were them?” That’s the kind of love that leaves a mark. That’s the kind of life Jesus blesses.
Let’s live the Golden Rule—together.
