Poverty of Spirit

The Beatitudes are windows into the character to which Jesus calls me. Where does Jesus start in reshaping my life?

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. – Matthew 5:3

Poverty of spirit is the starting place for every follower of Jesus. It’s the deep realization that, apart from  Him, I am spiritually bankrupt — I have nothing to offer and everything to receive. To be "poor in spirit" means I come to God empty-handed, acknowledging my need for His grace, mercy, and love. It’s the opposite of pride and self-sufficiency

My heart of sin is replaced with a heart shaped by Christ, everything starts to shift — and it begins with poverty of spirit. When I surrender and admit I can’t do it on my own, pride gives way to humility, striving gives way to trust, and God’s kingdom opens wide. In that surrender, I find freedom - no longer defined by performance, my past, or others’ opinions. My worth comes from grace, not achievement. From that humble place, Jesus shapes a teachable, open heart ready to be transformed by His love.

Oh, the quiet joy of walking the path my Creator carved for me.

What if...we start each day by humbly coming to Jesus with empty hands, asking Him to reshape our heart—less self, more surrender.  Let's do it together.

Sharing the journey with you,
