Advent is a Season of Waiting

We ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.

Romans 8:23

ADVENT SEASON IS A SEASON OF WAITING so while we wait we:

We rejoice…
We groan…
We hope…
We wait.

One of the surprises of the Christian life is that maturity doesn’t silence our groaning—it deepens it. Paul says those who have the first fruits of the Spirit still ache, still long, still feel the tension between what is and what will be. The Spirit does not anesthetize us from the brokenness of the world; instead, He awakens us to it while anchoring us in hope. What we experience now—intimacy with the Father, freedom from condemnation, new desires, help in prayer—is real, but incomplete. It’s the taste, not the feast.

The first fruits are God’s gracious way of saying, “This is just the beginning.” Every moment of assurance, every cry of “Abba,” every quiet nudge toward holiness is a preview of a coming harvest. And yet, we wait. We groan. We live with holy dissatisfaction—not because something is wrong with our faith, but because something is right. The Spirit inside us refuses to let us settle for less than full redemption—of our bodies, our stories, and all creation.

What if...our groaning isn’t a failure of faith, but evidence that the Spirit has already begun His harvest in us—and is stirring hearts to long for what God has promised to finish?
