Running the Race

No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. Philippians 3:13-14 NLT

I am not someone who makes new year’s resolutions. But I do like to reflect on the coming year. The apostle Paul gives me a good framework to do just that¾put the past in the past and look forward to living out Jesus’ calling in my life.

For me, “forgetting what is behind” involves the removal of barriers that prevent me from being a witness for Jesus where I live, work and play. The writer of the Hebrews puts it another way, “let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles” Hebrews 12:1.

However, I must do more than forget the past. I must also look forward, pressing on with perseverance to reach the end of my race.

Will you join me in the race this year?

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
