The Best Soil in which to Grow

Teaching medical residents was often a challenge. The best soil in which to grow in knowledge and character contained two key ingredients – humility and teachability.

  • Humble people are well aware of themselves. They know their strengths and weaknesses. And even when working within their strengths, they are humble.
  • Teachable people desire to learn, having respect for the teacher. They also acknowledge their limitations.

Whenever I found a humble, teachable student I knew great growth was possible. The same is true in my walk with Jesus. When I seek Him with a humble and teachable heart, I grow and am transformed. When I am not humble and teachable, my soul is restless. Jesus knew this when He said,

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.Matthew 11:29 NIV

The Great Teacher, gentle and humble, offers us His yoke so that we can learn from Him.Will you join me in seeking Him and in the process learn, be changed and find rest for our souls?

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
