Obedience
My first summer job, at 13 years of age, was working on a farm. My understanding of the employer/employee relationship was simple then—the boss told me what to do and I did it. Soon the other employees "enlightened" me, challenging my simple attitude. As long as they agreed with the boss they obeyed him. When they did not agree, they whined and complained and at times disobeyed.
On my journey with Jesus, I have come to see that obeying Jesus' teachings is often easy...when I agree with them. Obeying is much harder when I “disagree” in the moment. Jesus tells me that the reality of my relationship with Him is measured by my willingness to do what He says.
Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me…Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching...Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching.
John 14:21, 23, 24 NIV
The evidence of my loving relationship with God? Obedience. Let's work on it together this week.
