Forgetfulness

I asked, "What have you learned since being free of communism?" My friend answered, "I have learned how easy it is to forget."

He went on to say, "It is like taking a shower. If all you have is cold water, you do not like it, but you become accustomed to it. However, when given hot water for the first time, that hot water feels extraordinary. The next day you continue to marvel at hot water. But soon, oh too soon, that hot water is not so special anymore. You forget how miserable cold water was and you no longer delight in the comfort of the warm water.”

The Lord spoke of the same idea. After describing many details of the Promised Land he ended with,

“…then when you eat and are satisfied, be careful that you do not forget the Lord, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery."

How easily I forget God’s goodness when life is going well. I also fail to remember His faithfulness in the midst of difficulty.

Join me in remembering what God has done and guarding against forgetting?

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
