Hubris

Hubris—excessive pride and a sense of self-importance—is a constant battle for me. Yet if you knew me well, you would understand that my hubris constantly rubs shoulders with the gnawing question, “Am I good enough?” So, what is wrong with me?

When I use myself as a measure for my value—my skills, accomplishments, appearance, or status—I get a false answer. I either think too highly of myself or I think too lowly of myself. Neither my hubris nor my low self-esteem reflects the truth of my value to God.

When I examine my heart, God tells me, “Bob, I made you in my image and you are
...fearfully and wonderfully made…”  Psalm 139:14 NIV

I am reminded that because of Jesus, I am both a sinner and His child.
...to all who did receive him [Jesus], to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. John 1:12 NIV

I am His and He is mine. Living in this truth leaves no room for hubris. Will you join me in embracing our privileged position in Christ?

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
