No Shortcuts
When I bite into an apple and enjoy the crisp sweet taste, I do not think about what went into “making” that apple. Sometime in the past, apple seeds were planted. They grew into saplings. Over the years, through many storms, they grew into sturdy trees.
Flowers blossom each spring. Bees carry the pollen from blossom to blossom; fertilization takes place and apples grow. The “making” of an apple takes years and many steps along the way.
And so it is with my spiritual life. The idea of shortcuts is appealing. I want to know God and experience the power of His Spirit—quickly and without pain. Yet no shortcuts exist. Walking with Jesus is described as a narrow way that usually requires pain and perseverance.
But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it. Matthew 7:14 NLT
I have never heard complaints that the journey was not worth the ripe fruit of intimacy.
