Learning from Jesus' Questions - Who is My Family?

Years ago, my mother was a faculty member of Messiah College. In meeting an alum from there, I said, "You may have known my mother, Esther Snyder." He replied, "Yes, and now I see that you look just like her!" He went on to say that my facial features give me away. I could not hide!

Since I now claim to be a part of the family of God, how will people know? Do I look more and more like the One I claim to follow?

When told that His mother and brothers were near, Jesus spoke of the family of God first by asking the question, "Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?" (Matthew 12:48 NIV) Then He answered His own question by identifying the DNA of the family of God.

For whoever does the will of my Father in Heaven is my brother and sister and mother. Matthew 12:50 NIV

May it be so in me and all who claim the name of Jesus.

My prayer this week is the refrain to the hymn, Oh! to be Like Thee.

Oh! to be like Thee, oh! to be like Thee,
Blessed Redeemer, pure as Thou art;
Come in Thy sweetness, come in Thy fullness;
Stamp Thine own image deep on my heart.

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
