First Responders

In emergency medicine those who are first on the scene for heart attacks, strokes, and other life threatening problems are called first responders. They need to be called, however, before they can respond.  If no one calls 911 – no help will come. When calls for medical help are delayed more damage often occurs.

The same damage occurs in my spiritual life when I choose to carry the weight of my sins, griefs and troubles alone, rather than calling my first responder – Jesus, who has life-giving resources.

The song “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” suggests consequences for not calling on Him.

O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!

Jesus offers to me a wonderful promise,

Come unto me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.  Matthew 11:28 NLT

Will you join me this week in calling out to our Eternal First Responder using our spiritual 911 - prayer?  He is waiting to respond with rest for our souls.

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
