Knowing is Not Enough
I was so impressed listening to U. S. Senate chaplain, Dr. Dick Halverson, speak at my college graduation that I hoped to someday meet him. Years later, my friend Russ Cadle, kept telling me about someone he knew and admired - Dick Halverson. Then I met Dick's son who told me more about him. But the day finally came when I met Dr. Halverson face to face. All that I knew about him paled in comparison to being with him for the day. He encouraged me to seek Jesus in new ways.
Could that be what the disciples experienced in being with Jesus? The Pharisees were astonished that such ordinary men could have such courage in their lives and clarity of thought in their speech. What was the reason the Pharisees gave for the disciples' extraordinary lives?
When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus. (Acts 4:13 NIV)
Are you like me often investing more time trying to know about Jesus than spending time with Jesus? Join me this week in seeking time with Jesus – listening and responding. Knowing about Him is not enough.
Sharing the journey with you,
