Mirror, Mirror On The Wall
The quality of the mirror determines the appearance of what I see in the mirror. Sometimes on trips through rural areas of third world countries I find myself staring into a piece of metal that provides less than perfect images. I can be given the impression that I have shaved completely or that my hair in combed well. However, if I should find myself in front of a good mirror later, I am shocked by what I see – unshaven stubble or disheveled hair.
Spiritually, the same is true. What I use for a spiritual mirror determines what I see. Looking into a mirror-of-comparison to others leads to distortion. However, looking into the mirror of God’s Word yields an amazing high definition image of who I am and who He is. I suddenly see the spiritual stubble on my face that needs attention.
The writer of Hebrews knew the high-definition quality mirror of God’s Word when he said,
For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12 NIV)
Blessing awaits me if I gaze intently into God’s mirror – such reality, such opportunity to respond. Will you join me this week?
Sharing the journey with you,
