My Hope is Built on Nothing Less
The tension was palpable. The soccer game was tied 1-1 and exhausted players pushed on into the second overtime. I turned to the person next to me and said, “I surely hope we can outlast them.” A beautiful header into the left corner of the goal brought much relief to my racing heart! Later that same day my hope in my hometown baseball team, the Philadelphia Phillies was shattered as they lost in the first round of the post season playoffs. Putting hope in athletes occasionally pays off, sometimes not.
Shattered expectations and dashed hopes are a part of life. My abilities and the circumstances of my life can fail me. Thankfully, my eternal hope is not based on my ability or my life circumstances. Peter says that because I follow Jesus I have a living hope as my legacy,
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil, or fade – kept in heaven for you. (1 Peter 1:3- 4 NIV)
My hope - built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness - is certain and imperishable. Without this certain hope, my Christian faith collapses.
Join me this week rejoicing in the gift of our living hope!
Sharing the journey with you,
