Better By Affliction

Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I obey your word. Psalm 119:67 NIV

My suffering was good for me, for it taught me to pay attention to your decrees.  Psalm 119:71 NLT

How is it possible that afflictions can be good for me? Yet the psalmist suggests that difficulties in my life actually help me focus on God and His Word. The challenges I encounter in life present me with two choices: be bitter or be better.

God reaches out to me in my affliction and offers me hope. As I cling to Him, my perspective shifts and my heart is softened. I become better.

Will you join me this week in offering ourselves and our afflictions to the Great Comforter?

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
