“Follower” or Follower?

“Come, follow me…” Matthew 4:19 NIV

I recently heard that a young woman had 10 million “followers” on the social media platform TikTok. Wow! But what does it actually mean to be her “follower”? The click of a button? I am guessing that Jesus had deeper intentions for the concept of followership when he said to his disciples, “Come, follow me.”
Following Jesus involves trust, commitment, and sacrifice that leads to intentional devotion, as described in Acts 2:42:

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Acts 2:42 NIV

Do I understand Jesus’ command to follow him from the context of total surrender? I'm certain that's what he wants of me. Will you join me this week in following Jesus the way he wants us to?

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
