Eternity in My Heart

…He has also set eternity in the human heart…Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV

What does it mean to have eternity in my heart? It would seem on the surface to be so unnatural or even an escape from the “realities of this world”. But is it possible that God intended my reality to be larger than myself and my temporal world? I have capacity to understand math and science, yet my ability to understand God’s will and way for me is limited. Why is that? Probably because I am relying on my own understanding.

Jesus tells me that to understand the eternal or unseen I need a special teacher – the Holy Spirit.

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. (John 14:26 NIV)

My spiritual discernment is dependent on my willingness to listen to and learn from the Holy Spirit. The result?

You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
(Psalm 16:11 NIV)
