Mecy vs No Mercy

Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Matthew 5:7 NIV

I have been meditating on these words of Jesus. The question is what motivates me to show mercy to others? When it comes to my need for mercy, I almost expect it. But when I am asked to show mercy to others, my response is at times tepid. Why?

Could it be that my tepid response is related to my lack of insight of God's mercy toward me? If I really understood the deep cost of His mercy, you might have to restrain my enthusiasm for being merciful.

Being merciful toward others is always costly. Perhaps as I experience the cost of showing mercy more, I will grow in my insight of God’s mercy.

Again, Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
