The Incarnation

The Incarnation of Christ, of God becoming man in the form of Jesus, has taken on new meaning for me since my mother's death on Christmas Eve of 2015. I was reminded of the gift of Jesus, the Son of God, who came down into this world so that we could go up to Heaven.

Christmas is not a sad reminder of the season when I lost my mother. The birth, life, and sacrificial death of Jesus gave me assurance that my mother's faith in Him meant she is "home." The Incarnation is not a static doctrine, but rather a dynamic confidence. What a joy! This is why I celebrate Christmas.

Paul spoke of Jesus' humanity:

Who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bondservant, and being made in the likeness of men. Philippians 2:6-7 NIV

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich. 2 Corinthians 8:9 NIV

Join me in singing, with renewed awareness, this song:

Joy to the world, the Lord is come; let Earth receive her King...

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
