Why is Forgiveness So Hard?

Our God is a forgiving God.  Thank God!  Over and over in His teachings, Jesus instructed His disciples in the importance of forgiveness (Luke 23:33-34, Mark 11:25, Matthew 6:14-15, Matthew 18:21-35 to name a few).  So if forgiveness is so important why is it so hard for me?

I believe that I have many barriers—created by lies and misconceptions—that prevent me from forgiving from my heart, such as

·     They don’t deserve my forgiveness

·     Revenge would be good and is sweet

·     I might be “unsafe” if I forgive

·     Forgiving feels like I am condoning their actions

But God choose to forgive me…and when I understand the enormity of His choice, it makes my forgiving others pale in comparison.

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.  Ephesians 4:32 NIV

Join me, this week, in the choice to forgive?

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
