What Spills Out When I Am Bumped
Medicine has very sophisticated ways to monitor what is going on inside the body – heart monitors next to blood pressure machines on top of attachments accessing the oxygen content of the blood. In measurements, we are able to see what we cannot see with the eye.
This begs the question: How do we measure the condition of the soul? My cousin, commenting on my dying grandfather’s ailing body which was slowly wasting away, said, "As Grandpa grows weaker, I am more able to see the strength of his soul." A machine or gadget cannot monitor the soul. So what measures the condition of my soul deep within me? Perhaps I could measure what spills out when I am "bumped."
If anger, anxiety, resentment and pride spills out, I can be sure that I am filled with ME. Yet if I were filled with Christ, the fruit that comes from Him would spill out.
Paul prayed that we would be
... filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ. (Philippians 1:11 NIV)
Join me this week in observing what spills out of our souls when we are “bumped.”
