Oh, no . . . I cannot wait!

Waiting is an anathema to me. A long check-out line in the grocery store or a line at the ATM machine causes me great angst. My mother once told me that cooking was not to be my life's work because the culinary arts required patience.

And yet the famous last lines of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem "A Psalm of Life" come to me,

Let us, then be up and doing,
With a heart for any fate;
Still achieving, still pursing,
Learn to labor and to wait.

So I ask myself, "Can waiting be profitable?" The Psalmist says,

I waited patiently for the Lord and He turned to me and heard my cry. (Psalm 40:1 NIV)

Patience was required so that God could lift David out of the mire of his circumstances, set his feet on a firm place and give him a song in his heart. (Psalm 40:1-3)

Think of what I will miss in life if I don't learn to wait! Will you join me in drinking deeply from the lessons learned while waiting?

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
