When Knowledge Meets Power

"Scienta potentia est" the Latin maxim of Sir Francis Bacon means "Knowledge is power". I have found that knowledge finds its' power as it is lived out. For instance, my medical knowledge found its' power when I was able to apply it to the care of my patients. Unapplied knowledge has no power. Even worse is detaching my knowledge from my actions — when I do what I know I should not do. Now that is dangerous and destructive.

The Bible speaks often to me about the importance of knowledge and action. Moses expressed to the children of Israel that the purpose of the knowledge of God's word was obedience, yielding blessing.

...the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it. (Deuteronomy 30:14 NIV) All these blessings will come upon you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God...
(Deuteronomy 28:2 NIV)

Knowledge truly meets power when we engage the words of God and the power of His Spirit.

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
