Control Yourself, Bob

"You will always be a parent but you don’t need to always parent" — wise words from a friend suggesting that self-control is a helpful virtue when parenting adult children. Restraint — holding back — is a much needed area of development for me. Talking, reacting, and eating all need to be restrained in my life.

In my spiritual life, this Fruit-of-the-Spirit virtue, self-control, is not only a discipline but comes with purpose.

The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers. (1 Peter 4:7 ESV)

It really amazes me that my lack of self-control could affect my prayers. Self-control certainly impacts my physical and emotional health, but more importantly, my spiritual health.

Thoughtfully and prayerfully allowing the Holy Spirit to restrain me is a must. The question is, "Will I surrender and allow Him to do just that?" Will you join me?

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
