Minimizing Culture Shock

Much of the effort that Pamela and I invested in raising our children was to prepare them for "life". Guiding them from immaturity to maturity involved helping them move from dependence on us to dependence on God. A great deal of time was spent shaping their understanding of God, family, vocation and service. We hoped to minimize the culture shock of adulthood — quite a task.

There are many kinds of culture shock. The greatest will be stepping into the presence of a Holy God. I have come to realize that much of Jesus' efforts while on earth were not only to show me the way to the Father, but also to tell me how to minimize my culture shock when I meet Him. The more I know about Jesus, the more I desire to live like Him now. The more I live like Him now, the more prepared I will be to step into His presence.

And now, dear children, continue in Him, so that when He appears we may be confident and unashamed before Him at His coming.
(I John 2:28 NIV)

Join me in continuing in Him so that we may be confident and unashamed when we meet Him.

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
