Practicing God's Presence

Awareness of the presence (or absence) of people in the room is a recent step in the development of my 6 month old grandson, Adam. Only a month ago, when his mother left the room, he was unaware of her absence. However, now when she leaves he clearly realizes her absence. His face lights up when she returns. Adam is learning to practice the presence of his parents - finding comfort when they are near.

Awareness of the presence of God is one of the foundation stones of my spiritual life. Developing an awareness of God's presence means:

  • That I recognize His Presence,
  • That I keep Him in my thoughts,
  • That I live as though God's Presence matters, and
  • That I rest in the assurance of His Presence in all situations

What a difference God's presence makes in my life!

Moses found out the importance of God's presence when he asked God to teach him His Ways,

The Lord replied, "My Presence will go with you and I will give you rest." (Exodus 33:14)

Moses, realizing the importance of God's Presence, responded,

If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. (Exodus 33:15)

God offers us His constant companionship on the journey…join me, this week, in practicing His Presence as we find comfort and rest in Him.

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
