The Posture of Gratitude

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays in the United States. On occasion, in the past, my self-indulgence has led to misery. Thanksgiving dinner - so many delicious choices ending with great desserts - produced that "I-cannot-believe-I-ate-so-much" feeling. The results? Sleeping on the couch through another Thanksgiving Day American football game. Yes, Bob's posture for Thanksgiving!!

The posture of gratitude modeled in Scripture by the grateful leper has an entirely different look and feel. Spiritual gratitude has not even a twinge of self but rather a willing sacrifice and love toward God. Lavish gratitude produces a prostrate posture situated at the feet of Jesus. This posture results in healing and wholeness that only God can give.

One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan. Jesus asked, "Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?" Then he said to him, "Rise and go; your faith has made you well." (Luke 17:15-19 NIV)

Join me this week in a posture of great gratitude. Jesus says that when we assume this posture He will lift us up!

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
