The Perfect Work of Patience

I am an impatient man. I made a career choice that only encouraged my impatience. The atmosphere of immediacy in emergency medicine intensified my unwillingness to wait. Practicing patience has been an issue since I was a young boy. My mother said that cooking was not a career option since I wanted my food instantly. It would appear that the microwave oven was made for me.

As a follower of Jesus, impatience is not an option. The Apostle Paul said that clothing myself in compassion, kindness, humility, meekness and PATIENCE would evidence my relationship with God. (Colossians 3:12) How does an impatient man like me clothe myself in patience? The Bible suggests:

  •    Obediently choosing patience;
  •    Modeling myself after those who demonstrate patience;
  •    Embracing the trials God allows with calm endurance.

The Apostle James also tells me that until I understand the importance of patience my life will be lacking!

But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. (James 1:4 New King James Version)

I certainly need to increase my capacity for quiet perseverance. Will you join me this week in the practice of patience?

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
