Dreaming Dreams
While driving, I listened to a radio interview of two members of a contemporary secular band. The band had dreamed of touring together. And they said, “Our dream came true!” In fact, the reality was even bigger than their dream as they won a Grammy award. Reflecting back, however, they had this melancholy thought, “You get your dream and then you come back to life.” They realized that investing in their dream had cost them all their most important relationships – not a good return on their investment.
I too dreamed dreams as I delivered newspapers early in the morning as a young boy. I invested in some of my dreams – some were good investments, some were not. However if King David, a man of dreams and ambitions, were here with me today, he would have some advice regarding his greatest dream. He probably would have told me.
One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. (Psalm 27:4 NIV)
Some of my dreams were never realized. Some came true and were disappointing. Others came true and had value. Yet, only one dream has eternal significance with no possibility of disappointing – to seek God’s presence and follow Him. Will you dream with me?
Sharing the journey with you,
