From Significance to Submission

Visiting her basement gallery brought gasps of delight from my wife, Pamela. The pieces of collage art were a unique intersection of this woman's artistic talent and deep personal faith. Her art was surpassed only by her genuine humility.

Gently deflecting personal praise, she expressed her insignificance compared to an almighty, loving God. Her humility challenged me. Recently someone urged me to move my thinking from success to significance. However, in the beacon of the light shined by this artist's humility, I realized that moving from success to significance was still about me. This journey of faith is about Jesus and His will, not mine.

Submitting to Christ's way and choosing to please God transformed the Apostle Peter from an abrasive, arrogant and at times boastful man into a follower of Jesus - humble and focused on the One whom he loved. This idea of submission to God and others became so important to Peter that at the end of his life he wrote,

"Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, 'God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.' Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time."
(1 Peter 5:5-6 NIV)

The path to complete submission to God's will is a deeper, richer journey than the path to personal significance. The path has become steep on my journey . . . . . . I need help; will you join me on the journey to submission?

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
