Light Through the Cracks of Brokenness

Is it possible?

  • Contentment in the midst of financial crisis.
  • Peace in the midst of medical catastrophe.
  • Bravery in the midst of a dangerous situation.

Tough times test what's inside this jar of clay I call my body. What I actually believe about God is revealed by the contentment, peace and bravery that flows out of me...or doesn't flow out of me in such times.

The apostle Paul knew this about me when he wrote,

We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves. We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies. (2 Corinthians 4:7-10 New Living Translation)

Paul knew that the light of Jesus would best shine from our lives through the cracks of brokenness - job loss, sickness and broken relationships - as we reveal the life of Jesus in our lives.

Have you, like me, known some area of brokenness recently? I must constantly remind myself that the light of Jesus shines most brightly through the jagged edges of my brokenness. Join me is thanking God for the privilege of shining for Him during difficult times.

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
