God is with us!

God is with us. Yet I so easily fail to recognize Him. I am distracted by the noise of the world's problems, blinded by the spectacular that I long for and engrossed in the mundane that is so much a part of my life. I hear people complaining that society has stolen Jesus from the Christmas season. But Jesus cannot be stolen. The fact is that He has come and is with us. So why don't I recognize Him?

God is with us. But often I don’t hear Him, see Him, or feel Him present.

Elijah experienced the same. As he sought God, he did not find Him in the wind, the earthquake, or the fire, but in a gentle whisper                     (I Kings 19:11,12).

Some people of the first century failed to recognize God because they expected a military or political leader. Instead, God appeared as a babe in a manger.

Mother Theresa knew that God was present but she did not so easily find Him in the institutional church or the ecclesiastical hierarchy. She found Him among the least of the least of India.

God is with us. If I seek Him I will find Him. But He is not likely to be found in the noise of the season or in the spectacular. Join me in the search. And when we find Him, join me in singing, "O, Come let us adore Him!"

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
(Isaiah 7:14 NIV)
