Teachable
Writing a Lesson this week has been hard...I just don’t feel in the mood to learn. When my children were young my wife and I spoke of teachable moments. I am sure this week has brought some of those teachable moments; I just didn’t recognize them. So I wonder, "What makes for fertile soil for learning?"
- An Attitude: An Attitude of willingness, a child-like compliance and an ability to be submissive seems to be the top soil.
- Skills: We could call the Skills of listening, contemplation, and a discipline in processing information the planted seeds.
An openness to reproof involving my willingness to accept advice, counsel or admonishment reveals how teachable I am. (This may be the fertilizer). This acknowledgement of my need for guidance indicates how likely I am to be changed by the information - that is, apply what I learn.
I know I need to continue to grow in knowledge in general and about God specifically. What I do with teachable moments matters - but it won't happen this week. However, when I am ready, Solomon reveals the reward that awaits me when I accept instruction.
Listen to advice and accept instruction and in the end you will be wise. (Proverbs 19:20)
Sharing the journey with you,
