"It's All About Money"
"It's all about money!" These words from a store salesperson to me during a recent trip to the shopping mall embody the mood of the Christmas season in America. 'Tis the season to celebrate:
- The consumer
- Material possession
"It's all about money!" Could this also be a description of me? I agree with many who say our society is much too materialistic. But I would rather talk about it than do something about it in my own life.
I struggle with just what is enough - many of us think we have too little money. Few of us think we have too much. And in God's inimitable way, He designs that threshold of "enough" differently for each of us, making "enough" an issue of the heart, not an issue of the bank account. I have learned that holding lightly onto "things" enables a wonderful spirit of generosity - the joy of sacrificial giving.
No, Christmas is not about money. It is about God sacrificially giving His Son for us. This Christmas I need to be asking myself,
- "What should I be giving?"
- "How can I best give as an expression of God's love?"
- "To whom can I sacrificially share the blessings of God's love?"
Will you join me asking these questions this Christmas season?
"and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God." (Ephesians 5:2)
Sharing the journey with you,
