Evidence-Based Faith, Truth Revealed

In 1836 Pierre Louis conducted tests proving that "blood letting" did not help cure patients. In fact, it was usually detrimental. Such discoveries were the beginning of evidence-based medicine, using scientific methods (clinical trials) to prove that a particular treatment facilitated a cure. In the emergency department, decisions I made based on anything less than proven science could be life-threatening. Truth matters!

Hard Facts: Dangerous Half-Truths & Total Nonsense, Profiting from Evidence-based Management by Stanford professors Pfeffer and Sutton examined six commonly held "business truths" that crumble in the face of close scrutiny. This book is yet another reminder of how easily we embrace half-truths or misconceptions in daily decisions.

Thinking and acting on truth can not be over emphasized. As followers of Jesus, The Truth is the basis for our decisions. Jesus said,

"I am the way and the truth and the life...." (John 14:6 NIV)

My own failure to go to the source of Truth when making decisions has certainly impacted my life and those of others. Jesus is the foundation of our evidence-based faith, totally reliable and true.

Paul tells us to look at the evidence. He says "Test everything." (I Thessalonians 5:21 NIV) When we test any thought or act against the truth of the Word, the life of Jesus, and the character of Father, the evidence becomes clear; truth is revealed.

Science and business "truths" sometimes fail, but our evidence-based faith never fails. This week join me in putting all we hear, think and do through the grid of Truth.

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
